Here. There. Everywhere!  That is how my husband and family would describe where I keep my crafting supplies for Crafty Creations Wreath Shop.  LOL Since opening my wreath business in 2012, I must confess…….I am a hoarder of supplies.  Who can relate? I frequently shop sales from Hobby Lobby, Michael’s, JoAnn, and order from wholesalers.  I must have options when I begin creating, right? Ribbons, signs, and flowers are everywhere!  In the beginning my supplies were localized to a room we had designated as the office/craft room. Eventually they had spread to also include putting seasonal supplies up in the attic. When the children moved out on their own, their rooms begin filling as well.  Then the garage was suddenly full….wait, what? Where did all this stuff come from????   Finally the hubby said we have to do something!  So the search for the perfect shop was moved up on our priority list to “must-do-soon” rather than “someday”.

We decided that a metal storage building could be tucked into the woods down by our barn and not stick out like a sore thumb on our property.  We have beautiful pastures and landscape and the last thing I wanted is to plop a metal building in the middle of it.  It was easy to clear out a “little spot”.  We went to several local building dealers in the Auburn/Opelika area and began looking for the perfect building. Let me share something here….do take time to shop around! I couldn’t believe the price differences between each of the different dealers.  We even went to a little further in our search and drove to Columbus, GA. Since Columbus is so close to Fort Benning, there are several metal building dealers.  So, we made our rounds and I took notes at each dealer. I included building size, price, set up costs, etc.  I quickly determined that a smaller 10×12 unit would not do and would be filled too fast!  We went into a big 16×32 building that was set up at Action Buildings in Columbus.  This was it! Just what I was looking for! Now, the real fun started as we negotiated with the dealership.  Did you know they will negotiate?  Never hurts to ask…..although I felt a little like we were buying a car.  Remember when I told you it pays to shop around?  Well, we were able to get this building for almost $2500 less than we were quoted at another dealership.  Spent some time, saved some money!

Clearing the land…

I needed the craft shop to be temperature controlled and to have electricity so my hubby (he is so awesome!) did the wiring and we worked together with the boys to put up plywood and pegboard walls and beadboard ceilings.  I chose plywood over sheet rock (this is a craft room and not a house, right) because I wanted to be able to hang all my signs and wreath forms.  I also chose a laminate wood floor (I do want it to be inviting and pretty) so I can have easy clean up and durability.  Plus, the flooring was on clearance sale- score!  You learn a lot about your family when you work together like this! We had a lot of fun.

The wreath shop journey began in January with the purchase of an Action building and we moved in and I began creating in my “dream” shop in July!  Not too bad for doing this ourselves and paying as we went 😊
